Proportional Dosing Pump / Medicator
The proportional dosing pump — often called a farm water medicator — injects a controlled amount of soluble additive into the drinking water line, at a fixed percentage of the actual water flow. Whatever the flock drinks — more at midday, less at night — the ratio in the water stays the same.

It serves poultry, pig and other livestock farms for water-soluble vitamins, electrolytes, supplements, and medication under veterinary supervision. Supplied with filter, bypass assembly and suction hose as a complete installation set.
How It Works
Water flowing through the unit drives the dosing mechanism, which draws concentrate from the suction hose and injects it into the main line at the set percentage. Because dosing follows flow, the mixture stays constant across the day’s drinking pattern without any adjustment. Water-flow-driven models run with no electrical connection; other dosing systems require power — we confirm the drive type against your model before ordering.
Where Farms Use It

Medication Through Drinking Water
When a flock needs treatment, dosing through the water line reaches every bird on the system — including birds that have gone off feed. In hot climates, feed intake drops before water intake does, so water medication is often the faster route. The additive, dosage and duration follow veterinary instructions.
Vitamins and Electrolytes
Standard uses include chick start after transport, support around vaccination, and heat-stress periods. In hot-weather regions flock water consumption can double — the proportional pump keeps the vitamin concentration constant through those flow swings, which is exactly what manual tank mixing cannot do.
Water Line Treatment
Low-level dosing keeps drinking lines, header tanks and drinkers hygienic between flushes — relevant with open bell drinkers, where water is exposed to dust and feed. The pump also doses line-cleaning solutions during between-flock flushing.
Pig and Multi-Species Farms
The same unit serves nipple-drinker lines in pig houses — weaning-period supplements and medication — and poultry houses on one farm, so a mixed operation standardizes on one pump type.
Where It Sits in the Water System
The medicator installs on the main water line, upstream of pressure regulators and drinkers:
Water source → filter → medicator (suction hose into additive container) → pressure regulator → drinkers
- Filter upstream of the pump, to keep particulates out of the dosing mechanism.
- Bypass assembly so the line keeps running while you service the pump or change additives.
- Suction hose draws from any suitable container placed beside the unit.
Proportional Pump vs Manual Tank Mixing
| Factor | Proportional Medicator | Mixing in a Tank |
|---|---|---|
| Ratio accuracy | Constant percentage, follows flow automatically | Drops as the tank drains; depends on the person mixing |
| Labor | Fill the container, set the ratio | Every batch mixed by hand |
| Additive freshness | Small batches, always fresh | Large batches sit in the tank |
| Siting | Inline, small footprint | Requires a mixing tank and space |
| Best for | Continuous dosing, large flocks, heat-stress flow swings | Small farms, occasional one-off treatments |
Selecting the Unit
We size the medicator against your system. Send:
- Water flow range of the line (or flock size and drinker count — we calculate)
- Required dosing percentage range
- Line pressure at the installation point
- Additives you plan to dose — we confirm chemical compatibility with the pump’s wetted materials
- Pipe diameter at the installation point
Safe Use
- Use only products approved for use in livestock drinking water.
- Confirm chemical compatibility between the additive and the pump’s wetted materials before first use.
- Dosage follows the additive manufacturer’s instructions and veterinary direction.
- Do not dose acids and chlorine-based products through the line at the same time — confirm each dosing program with the additive supplier.
FAQ
Can it be used for poultry and pigs?
Yes, provided the water flow range and dosing ratio suit the farm’s system. Send your drinker count and line layout and we confirm the model.
Does it require electricity?
Water-flow-driven models run with no power connection — the water itself drives the dosing mechanism. Other dosing system types require electrical supply. We confirm the drive type before you order.
What injection ratios are available?
Ratio range depends on the model — see the specification table or send your target dosing percentage, and we match the model.
Where in the line do I install it?
On the main line, upstream of the pressure regulator, with the filter ahead of the pump and the bypass assembly around it.
What is included in a standard set?
Filter, bypass assembly and suction hose, together with the medicator unit.
